Course Aims
- To introduce and develop person-centred assessment skills
- To enable learners to identify where Telecare equipment may help to support service users, and / or where it may be appropriate to signpost to other services
- To raise awareness of a basic range of Telecare equipment
- To raise awareness of risk factors and how these can be managed
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course learners will be able to:
- Understand the importance of a structured assessment process
- Understand risk factors and how these can be managed
- Understand how low-level Telecare equipment can support individuals to manage daily living activities
- Reflect on the possible impacts of their intervention
Course Content
- Learners will look at a range of low-level telecare equipment
- Learners will explore the assessment process, including suitability of equipment for the individual, suitability for the task, environmental factors and technical specifications
- Learners will consider how to identify and manage Risk Factors in use of equipment and reflect on the possible impacts of their intervention
Practical demonstrations of low level equipment including:
- Medication dispensers
- Pendant / falls alarms
- Smoke / gas / flood detectors
- Movement sensors
